Bunbury: "What I have to do now is to offer material of first class"
Itxu Díaz / Ana Medina.    09/02/2010

Enrique Bunbury was the vocalist of Héroes del Silencio between 1984 and 1996, one of the most important bands of the history of the Spanish rock. Bunbury initiated his career in solitarily in 1997 and he has edited five albums of study since then. Next month he will release 'Las consecuencias', his profound and quiet new album.

'Las consecuencias' it is a quiet album, to taste calmly. There are artists who believe that these are the albums that really leave trace, the album to which always it is possible to return because it doesn't bore ... Is 'Las Consecuencias' an album like that for you?
Actually, I think so. I think this album will stand up to the passage of time; but in the end...Who knows? In my opinion, this one is an album with a production, instrumentation and songs that possess the characteristics not to succumb to the defeat of the modes. We will expect to see.

You sing in 'El Boxeador' who "golpea mejor quien golpea primero"("Hits better the one who hits first" ... Are you used to hit first?
Quite the opposite. I am one of those who put the other cheek.

The harsh love story of '21 de octubre'', with your voice and the acoustic guitar during almost the whole song, will grow even more accompanied of the sigh and the pops of the vinyl edition of 'Las Consecuencias'. The same thing happens with many other songs of the album. It looks like an album thought for the vinyl. Do you recommend to your fans the excuse of the vinyl edition to recover this format?
Of course I recommend it. I am a voracious buyer of vinyl. Hardly, I buy CD. Nowadays, I almost buy none. I don't like the format and I don’t like the sound; although the MP3 is worse. The return of the vinyl would be great for all those who value sincerely the sound and the total process of the recording of an album.

You are supporting the consequences of an increasing fame since the 80's. In your case, probably, specially intense, with very unconditional fans, as in solitary as in Héroes del Silencio. How many times have you wanted to part with the public personage that you are and to return to the anonymity? Does it happen to you now with more frequency that before?
I am more accustomed now than in the first times. I do everything possible for taking a normal life. Actually, exempting the moments in which I am in a scene or I am in the middle of a promo, my daily activity looks like anyone's life. I feel totally anonymous, until someone approaches me. For the rest, I am very grateful to the public who allows me to have a creative life, with which one I can show my interests.

Is it Spain a country grateful with his bigger artists? Do you believe your work and your career is respected here?
Spain is like this, with her big virtues and her faults. Certainly, any generalization would not be just with the individualities that shape this village of villages. But, it is obvious, that is not like France or Argentina, countries that exaggerate the greatness of his History, his artists...

When you began your career in solitarily, after Héroes del Silencio, were you imagining you would come to this point? What were you waiting then and what are you now?
Not at all... I could' t have imagined to last so much time making music, and I could' t have think my songs could be listened by so many people on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. I think the moment in which I am is ideal to begin to do some important album. The learning has showed me the way and what I have to do now is to offer material of first class.

Sin duda alguna Enrique Bunbury es el mejor artista que España a parido, aunque no es dificil serlo viendo el panorama que le rodea.
