The FAC and Lily Allen light the spark: she explodes the civil war among artists
Itxu Díaz / Ana Medina.    27/10/2009

The wide world of the musical industry is crossing the more convulsed days. The modern industry, since till now we have known it, is crumbling without solution for years. New convincing models do not arise and the opportunities of business become closer up to the end. The Record labels, artists, agencies and all the support industries which are living about the world of the music are debating for years, looking for solutions and trying to protect themselves. The most of them have placed opposite to the consumers. But this hasn´t had good results. In the music, the consumers are an essential piece of this commercial chain. The price of every song and concert are measuring up for the quantity of ears who are interested in listening to them and the quantity of eyes who contemplate them.

Always polemic, Lily Allen exploded some weeks ago before a report of the Featured Artists Calition (FAC). The artists of the FAC wanted to offer their point of view on the proposal of the British government to disconnect of Internet the users who exchange music in networks P2P. And they did it with forcefulness regarding the measure that the government was proposing. In spite of they believe necessarily to solve the problem, they proved to be firm in their argumentation opposite to the offer of the government: "We believe that to chase the fans is the suitable way of solving the problems with the exchange of files ".

The artist created an anti-piracy blog immediately after the FAC´s statement. In this blog she was accusing the members of the association of being "rich" that do not need to solve the problem of the illegal unloads because with or without it, they will continue being rich. She was aiming that whom really harms the situation is those singers and bands who are beginning, those who have a "big debt with their label" which will take them years to settle. In this point it is necessary to bear in mind that as Lily Allen parts with her own words, she would have stopped paying now the debt with her label.

After opening a new debate with her declarations in her peculiar blog, and after provoke an artists´ new meeting to debate all these questions, Allen withdraws herself from the antipiracy campaign. "My work is done ", she says in her space in Twitter," I am not going to the meeting (…) I am proud to have thrown the debate but I leave the relief to the others ". Lily Allen justifies her absence in the meeting saying that she wants to avoid to being the target of the journalists and to turn into an excuse to not debate the important questions.

The artist announces also her retreat of the music in her blog. Something that she already had promised time before, when she made clear that her future was marry with 25 years old- she is 24-, to leave the music and to leave to live to the field. But her words are vague. She only clarifies that she has not renewed with her label and that she doesn´t want to record any more albums. At the moment, she has dates of concerts compromised until December.

The agent of the artist has made clear to NME that Allen will not leave the music at one stroke. And he mellows Lily Allen´s words: "She is not thinking on her next album because now she is in the middle of the promotion of her current one".

On both sides of Lily Allen numerous artists have begun to be positioned. Some known faces of the international music have not hesitated to take part in the blog Lily Allen´s anti-piracy debating publicly with the artist. But now only the British young star has access to these valuable commentaries because the blog remains closed, as she announces in Twitter: “And i´ve shut down the blog, the abuse was getting too much”.

Now, the civil war among the artists has begun. And we will have new episodes soon in our draft.
